After the success of this year's Open River Day in
Oxford, plans are being made for a repeat in May 2008: a chance
for all the family to come and find out about rowing, canoeing and
fishing on the Thames. The event will be based in the meadows at
Donnington Bridge. The Riverside Centre, Falcon Rowing and
Canoeing Club, City of Oxford Rowing Club, Isis Canoe Club, City Barge,
the Oxford Sea Scouts and Sea Cadets, will all be taking part.
A new event for October:
Oxfam Literary Tour of Oxford's Waterways
A one-and-a-half-mile exploration of the Thames, its backwaters and the
Oxford Canal in the footsteps of novelists, diarists, poets and
travellers.
From Chaucer's Miller to Pullman's Gyptians, the enduring importance of Oxford's
waterways is explained by local historian, author and narrowbaot-dweller) Mark Davies.
The route is flat, but with some steps.
10am - 12noon on Saturday 13th October, starting at Oxford Castle Unlocked
(outside shop and cafe).
Limited numbers; advance booking essential, by email to mark.oxford1@btinternet.com
Complimentary tea or coffee at Oxford Castle Unlocked at the end of the
walk. Limited to 24 people.
Tickets £10 - in aid of Oxfam.
